The water was cool on Jaybird's legs as she waded into the lake. Her small two year-old body shivered happily at the feeling. She liked the water. She'd always liked playing in it when she and the mares and foals of her old family could sneak away from the main herd for a bit and play in the nearby pools. She smiled to herself, her brightly colored body shimmering with the light reflected off of the lake's surface. She lowered her head and took a long drink from the water.
She'd expected to see more horses around the lake enjoying it. But, she guessed, the drop of a mere ten or so feet out was too much to worry about. "I guess I'll just stay along the edge, then." she told herself, raising her head to gaze out at the lake and to look along the shoreline.

I was never one for rules and being told what to do. I was a rebel, an outcast, someone that lived on the edge and was always sure to walk the line between complete danger and safety. Horses feared me. Predators would learn to fear me...
Yeah... That sounded awesome!. The young stallion gave a snort of delight coupled with a small buck of satisfaction. He'd been working all morning on the right introduction for himself when meeting a new lady if they were curious about all of his scars. Once he got himself some scars, at least. He was strutting his stuff across the large expansive grasses that hadn't really been inhabited since the fall of the previous kings. But it was nice to get out and see the rest of Hilzaria every once in a while and he hoped he'd chosen the right place to travel to, hoped there would be another decent horse that he could have some fun with.
Picking up his heavier frame into a lope, Tanner (as he had been nicknamed by those that couldn't quite remember his extremely fancy name) made his way across the grasslands and toward the lake where horses tended to gravitate to. It was a nice place, no doubt about that, but there were other places he wanted to explor. He wanted adventure, he wanted danger, he wanted... A mare-friend. Not exactly one to spend the rest of his life with, but one that he could just... Meet. They were not a common occurrence in the Badlands and he hadn't quite seen a mare in quite a few months. But what better time than now, right?
Coming up to the lake, Tanner saw a silhouette in the distance and released a deep call, alerting them to his presence and then continuing forward. He really hoped it was a mare. Yet another sausage in the bun of life would really rain on his parade.
{ooc} don't ask me about that last sentence. it sounded funny when i thought of it xD;

Jaybird's ears perked up at the sound of another's call. She raised her head from the cool water and turned to look in the direction of the noise as it filled her ears and drained into her head. Her brown eyes landed on what she assumed to be a stallion from the sound of his call. If you stood close enough, you'd have been able to see his loping reflection her dark eyes, seeing what she saw, watching the excitement she felt bring a glimmer to her eye. She smiled cheerfully. Finally, some company! she thought to herself. While she was normally fairly shy, she did like to make new friends. The Misty Fields might have been a better place to look, having more horses there and all, but Nairi Lake seemed to be working just fine.
"Hello, there!" She called out to him in her young, energetic voice as she turned, wading out of the water and on to the grassy shore. Her long, bi-colored tail dripped with water, her white legs turned slightly pink from the water. Her voice was light, with a laugh in it. She was a happy mare, despite her past, and it showed.
Not patient enough to wait for him to reach her (she was just too excited!), she picked up a trot, her lean legs carrying her over the land until she transitioned down to a halt, planning to meet him half-way. There she stood, her coat glistening in the bright sun, her head up, ears pricked and eyes shining.

At the mare's return call, Tanner's ears perked and he slowed from his canter to a floating trot. He instantly knew it was a mare that had called out to him and now his curiosity was piqued. It's true he was hoping to run into a mare while he was cavorting about Hilzaria, but for some reason he didn't really expect to find one. Especially in a completely different territory outside of the Misty plains.
As he got closer, he slowed even more and finally walked up to the mare, his ears forward and tail waving back and forth. Finally, he stopped and gave a heavy shake of his mane, allowing the quiver to also travel down his spine. "Hello," He said with his most charming grin, finally looking at her. Overall, he was not impressed. Just a simple chestnut mare with some patches of white on her body. He'd been expecting something flashy and elaborate, something he hadn't seen before. But beggars couldn't always be choosers, so Astyanax would have to deal with a less-than-elaborate mare.
