It was still fairly early in the morning and the mist was particularly heavy over the grassy fields. Jaybird's spindly legs carrying her two year-old body smoothly over the grass, her legs cutting through the thick mist.
Her long face lifted to stare up at the sky for a moment before gazing out at all of the other mares and the few stallions wandering around her. She pictured them all later in life with a foal around about around them - as a family - and sighed. She had no idea where her family was. She'd abandoned them. It was completely unintentional, but she hadn't been able to find her way back to them, and she wasn't sure she could have faced them after what had happened to her friend. The mountain lion claiming her best friend's life right before her eyes had left a scar far deeper than anything the lion could have done to her had it caught her. But never-the-less, she'd managed to accept her friend's death and not let it get her down too much. While she missed her friend dearly, she was more focused on finding a new family now.
But around her were mares. Adult and beautiful. What would any stallion want with a two year old? But still, she could only hope one would take pity and give her a place in their home if not in their hearts. Maybe she'd even make a new friend of one of the mares out here? She'd like that just as much. But for now, the pony-sized filly sighed and lowered her head to the grass and grazed while she waited.

It was not an uncommon thing, for Eiremni to find himself on the Misty Plains. Though he'd been haunting the Badlands of late, unattached to any herd, he wasn't as comfortable around male company as he was around females. That was the setting in which he shone; despite his status as something of a womanizer, he couldn't help but be charming around the mares. He wasn't always looking for commitment, or anything from them at all. He just like the game, the play of words, the dance of it all. He thrived on it, and it kept him coming back to the Plains for more. This particular morning he was rather energetic, moving through the light mist at a trot, head thrown high with alert curiosity. Though five years of age, Eiremni was not an incredibly serious individual most of the time. He could be, if the situation called for it, but normally he preferred to keep things light and carefree. His mocha gaze scanned the landscape, seeing a few mares here and there, mostly staying away from each other, instead speaking to the couple of stallions like himself. A few eyes landed on him, but he only gave a light smile before moving on. Just because he was a player didn't mean he'd go for any mare that made eyes at him. After a few moments of moving across the land, his gaze lighted upon an interesting morsel grazing on the dew-damp grass. She was a small creature, and young by her scent. Eiremni's curiosity piqued at a filly alone in the land of the unclaimed. He slowed to a stop when he neared her, breath puffing softly from his continued exertion. He studied the bi-colored mare for a moment, noting her flaming mane and tail. He wondered if her personality would match her coloring, or if looks were deceiving. "You seem a little young to be out here on your own," the stallion said rather innocently, staying a polite distance from her. For now. A smile spread across his lips at the thought, but he stayed quiet. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Notes; Woohoo He says the most tactful things /not! xD

Her ears flicked forward at the sound of approaching hoof beats. She stopped grazing and lifted her head, her brown eyes gazing curiously at the larger, obviously older stallion as he came to a halt before her. She quickly finished what graze she had in her mouth as she listened to his greeting. He seemed nice. Light-hearted, too - something that seemed to be rare in a stallion.
A smile of her own crossed her velvet lips and she let out a soft laugh. "I'm two, sir. I'm only alone because, due to an unfortunate accident, I seem to have found myself separated from my family." she told him. She gave an extra smile to show that she wasn't about to go off on a 'woe is me' tangent on him. She was fine talking about that day, but often left out the part of her friend's death. The story often made it sound as if she was the only one being chased. That she'd out-run the lion, but had gone in the wrong direction.
"My name's Jaybird. What's yours? She asked, tilting her head a bit to the side, her ears pricked forward curiously, her eyes shining. She'd reach adulthood in a little less than a year, but she still had that child-like flare to her. She was glad the stallion had come to talk to her, she'd really wanted the company. She was even happier to see that he didn't seem to be the tough-nut, no-fun kind of stallion that she'd seen a lot of. Stallions like her father had been.
